A Moment for Meditation
RENEWED DAY BY DAY
Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
II Corinthians 4:16, TNIV
My birthday card tells me on the front "Don't let society tell you what people your age can and can't do!" On the inside it says, "That's what your knees are for. Happy Birthday." And my knees are indeed talking to me.
But life is not determined by the wellness of our bodies. If it were we would all be ultimate losers.
What determines our life is the renewing power of the Holy Spirit, freely given by Jesus to every believer. This is the water that Jesus gives which becomes in us a spring of water welling up to eternal life (John 4:14). This is something that makes all who put their trust in Jesus ultimate winners.
Our bodies do waste away, for some sooner and for others later. But the renewal of life that comes through Jesus' gift of the living water of the Spirit is what makes us winners.
